We would like to advise residents of upcoming essential repair works to the disused railway bridge (Petersfield Road Bridge – MEL/28) between Bordean and West Meon.
To allow these works to take place safely, the A272 beneath the bridge will be closed from Monday 1st September to Sunday 12th October 2025 (maximum 6 weeks). Works include brickwork replacement, repointing, and new fencing to ensure the ongoing safety of the bridge.
DIVERSION ROUTE
We’ve checked with the contractor and can confirm that the official diversion route will NOT send traffic through West Meon. Signs at the crossroads will only warn of the closure ahead and direct traffic north along the A32 (towards Alton).
Traffic from Petersfield will be diverted via the A3, A325, B3004, A31, and then back onto the A32 to rejoin the A272 at West Meon Hut. Additional signage is also being put up around minor local roads (Privett, Bordean, East Meon) to encourage drivers to stick to the official route.
